Albert's Story

Albert "Turk" Bruner, 91, entered into eternal peace Friday, July 14, 2017. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, son of Lena (Stith) and Albert Bruner.
Turk was raised in Greensburg and joined the US Navy at the young age of 17 to fight for his country in WWII.
He was employed with Commercial Motor Freight until retirement and later worked for a close friend, Mark Thomas, for an additional 16 years.
Turk was married to Eula (Pate) Bruner, who preceded him in death. Together, they had four children, Diane Ray, Tracey Kim Bushly, Todd Bruner, and Greg Bruner. Turk was also the father of Toni Jackson, of Mishawaka.
He later married Winifred (LeMasters) Thurston and became stepfather to Daylene DeBolt, Beth Alford, Gordon Thurston, and Tony Johns. Turk and Winnie shared 41 years together before she passed away in August 2007.
Turk was then blessed to meet a wonderful woman Betty (Alt) Woods. They shared five happy years together before her passing in November 2016.
Turk was a wonderful grandfather and had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of West St. United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
A memorial service begins at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 21 at West St. United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to the church for their kindness and consideration.
