Alice L. Hess, 92, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was born in Adams on Aug. 21, 1924, daughter of Albert and Ethel (Hoffman) Oliphant.
She married Charles Hess on March 31, 1945, in Greensburg, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1963.
Alice worked for many years as a waitress at Big John's Truck Stop and as a custodian at Jackson High School.
She attended First Church of God for many years and was an avid Bingo player.
Survivors include her daughters, Maxine Wilhoit of Franklin, and Chloe (Richard) Delay of Greensburg; son, Kenneth "Danny" (Jama) Hess of New Point; daughter-in-law, Jewelene Hess of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren; 26 great -grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Davis; second husband, Charles; sons, Gary and Brian Hess; sisters, Elsie Sellers, Ethel Darby, Roxie Newby and Leota Hays; and brothers, Chester, Arthur, Paul, Kenneth, Roscoe, Cecil and Wesley Oliphant.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the start of funeral services at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
