Carolyn's Story

Carolyn Adkins, 83, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was born May 25, 1934, in Rushville, daughter of Lowell Collyer and Vera (Mercer) Collyer-Duggan.
She married Robert Lester Adkins on Nov. 2, 1951, in Aurora, and he preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1994.
Carolyn was a stay-at-home mother for many years. She also worked at various stores in Greensburg throughout her life. You might recognize her from the candy counter at GC Murphys, or as a cashier at Greensburg IGA or Kmart, before they closed.
She is survived by her daughters, Diana (Roger) Blanford of Greensburg, Brenda (Max) Smiley of Greensburg and Kimberly Lawrence of Columbus; sons, Ronald (Debra) Adkins, David (Judy) Adkins and Jamie Adkins, all of Greensburg; brother, Lynn Collyer; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Richard Collyer; and grandchildren, Veronica and Misty Adkins.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at Noon on Thursday, July 20 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
