Craig R. ("Bud") Solmon, 81, went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2017. He was born in Rushville on June 15, 1936 to Henry Craig and H. Lucille (Rogers) Solmon and was baptized in 1944. Craig graduated from Vandalia Community High School in 1954, and attended Eastern Illinois State University. He married Lorretta M. Pruett on September 1, 1957 in Vandalia, IL.
Craig lived and farmed east of Milroy for over 50 years and retired after 35 years from Farm Bureau Insurance. He served on the boards of the Milroy Cemetery, the Dunn Mental Health Association, and the Anderson Township Regional Sewer District. He was a member of the Milroy Christian Church, Greensburg Masonic Lodge No. 36, a 32 Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, and a 55-year member of the Rushville Elk's Club.
Survivors include his wife Lorretta, daughter Cathy (Scott) Lockhart of Fishers, IN and grandchildren Kelly (Jason) Norman, Stacie Lockhart, and Kimberly (Kevin) Dobbyn with great granddaughters Alice Pearl and Evelyn Ruth Dobbyn; daughter Lisa (Jeff) Smith and grandchildren Anna, Laura, and Jared Smith of Milroy; son Ken (Susan) Solmon and granddaughter Kaitlin Solmon of Fishers, IN; niece Debbie Kemmerer and nephew Mike (Cheryl) Pippin; and three great nieces and two great nephews and several cousins.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents, sister Alice Pippin, nephew Dave Kemmerer and great nephew Andy Pippin.
Services will be at Burns Funeral Home on Saturday, September 9, with Masonic Services at 9:30 a.m., visitation at 10 a.m. and Phil Mitchell officiating the funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Old Milroy Cemetery.
