David Raymond Greiwe, 67, of Columbus, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 13, 1949, in Greensburg, to the late Raymond and Josephine (Obermeyer) Greiwe.
David served in the United States Coast Guard from 1967 to 1971.
He married Judith Robbins on June 29, 1974, and she survives.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University in 1984.
David retired from Cummins Engine Company after 45 years of service. He enjoyed planting trees at home he shared with Judy for many years. He also liked spending quality time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Greiwe participated in ten half-marathons after being a three-time cancer survivor. He loved walking and being outdoors.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by his daughters, Angela (Steven) Ginder of Greensburg, Susan (Joseph) Walker of Bloomington; grandchildren, Cole and Claire Ginder, Mary Caroline, Catherine, Nora Ray, and Joseph Walker; honorary grandchildren, Maeryn and Sullivan Herrick, Kerrigan Lee, Emmary, Brighton and Harley Gurka; sisters, Betty (Ray) Sample, Janet (Doug) Einhaus; brother, Michael (Barb) Greiwe; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Haley, Rosemary Collins, Partricia Lowry; and brothers, Tom and Frederick Greiwe.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home in Columbus. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 24 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Andy Syberg officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. Full military rites will be presented by Greensburg American Legion Post #129.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
