Donald L. Mathews, 83, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017, at his residence. Donald was born on Oct. 29, 1933, in Fayette County, the son of Farrell and Mary (Burch) Mathews.
Don was a 1953 graduate of Clarksburg High School. On Jan. 23, 1954, he married Gwyndlene "Gwen" Artmeier in Clarksburg and she survives.
Don worked for many years at Philco Ford and then later worked at Kramer's Feed Mill. Don was the ultimate handy man, there was very little he could not do or fix. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and loved carpentry work; he especially liked working with cherry and oak woods.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Mary Kaye (Lynn) Halterman of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Kim (Dwight) Buttery of Liberty, and Dawn (Richard) Cooper of Greensburg; brothers, Phillip Paul, Everett and Charles Mathews; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Lizzie Metcalf-Mathews and brothers, George, Chris and Gene Mathews.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 6 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Hafenbreidel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
