Dorothy Louise (Bowen) Deniston, 89, passed away Friday evening, April 14, 2017. She was born June 23, 1927 in North Vernon, to the late Bertha Elizabeth and Leslie Bowen.
Dorothy was married for 57 years to the love of her life, John Henry Deniston, Jr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2001.
Dorothy's sweet and simple demeanor won the hearts of many who enjoyed her company, humor, and wisdom. She was a homemaker who tirelessly and faithfully cared for her family and the farm, which was recently awarded the Sesquicentennial Hoosier Homestead Award.
She remained independently living in her home in Sardinia. Earlier in her life, she performed community service at her children's school and the Sardinia Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Dorothy and John Henry very much enjoyed ballroom dancing to Big Band music. They were known to clear the dance floor while others admired their grace and love and commitment to each other.
She is survived by her son, John Thomas "Tom" Deniston, Sardinia; daughter, Janet D. Streetman; granddaughter, Suzanna "Jade" (Shaun) Cook; grandson, Johnathan G. (Darcy) Streetman; great-granddaughters, Caroline Elizabeth, Audrey June and Cora Jane Cook; and a soon-to-be great-grandson Streetman in July 2017, all of Lexington, Kentucky.
Much love and appreciation go to special friends Doris Brown, Darla Ortman, Sharon Stephens, Carri Lee, Mary Jean (cousin) and Frank Taylor, Larry and Carol Evans, Bob Mulroney, Judy Tomson, Linda Harrell and the North Vernon Arby's staff.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, James and Ralph Bowen.
A procession will depart Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19 for a graveside memorial service at the Deniston family site in Westport Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Evans, Larry Clark, Frank Taylor, Jim Tomson, Bill Brown and John Evans.
