Dorothy J. Foster, 97, of Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at her residence. Dorothy was born in Greensburg on November 30, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Robbins) Hood. Dorothy graduated from Greensburg High School in 1937. She married Gerald A. Foster on October 5, 1938 in Greensburg and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1994.
Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Foster of Greensburg and Deborah (Richard) Staser of Indianapolis; her sons, Charles (Sandra) Foster, Stephen Foster and Trevor (Joyce) Foster all of Greensburg; grandchildren, Kevin (Crystal) Foster, Amy (Mark) Bower and Rebecca Foster; step grandchildren, Lynn Staser, Scott (Cinda) Staser and Rex (Brenda) Staser; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Trevor and Jenna Foster, Ashley and Sam Bower and Hannah Hassler; and three step great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaylyn Staser and Nicole McDougall. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son at birth, Ronald Foster; her three sisters, Margaret Bills, Sally Holbrook and Lorraine Spillman; and her five brothers, James Hood, Scott Hood, Lloyd Hood, Leland Hood and Charles Hood Jr.
After raising her children, Dorothy went to work for the Greensburg Daily News, and then later went to work at the Decatur County Treasurer's office doing secretarial work. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Carter officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Online condolences may be made to the family at
