Ella's Story

Ella Jo Briggs, 90, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born July 4, 1926, in Griffin, Indiana, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Grace (Axton) Haywood.
She attended school in Grayville, Illinois.
She married Staff Sergeant Louis Mobley, who was killed in WWII. They had one daughter who died in infancy.
Ella married Roger D. Briggs on Nov. 25, 1971, and lived happily for 40 years on his farm in Decatur County. After Roger sold the farm, they moved to Greensburg, where he preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2004.
Ella was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg. Her motto for daily living was "To live each day with an attitude of gratitude.
Roger had four children, and Ella loved her step-children as her own.
Ella is survived by her stepchildren, Thomas, Lance, and Melanie; grandchildren, Amy, Daniel, Nicole, Alex, Katherine, Justin, Christal, and Melanie; sister, Mary Grace Watts of Clinton, Arkansas; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Mobley; infant daughter; brothers, Horace, Bill, Tom, Fred, and Norman; and stepson, Steven.
Graveside services begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 16 at South Park Cemetery with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
