Gabriel S. Abellada, 73, Greensburg, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg. Born Oct. 6, 1943, in Manila, Philippines, he was the son of Gabriel and Jacinta (Servito) Abellada.
Gabriel graduated from FEATI University in Manila with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for the Bureau of Public Works in the Philippines and at the office of the President in the Malacanang Palace. When he came to the United States, he worked at Public Telephone Co., then as a quality inspector for electrical/HVAC systems for AMTRAK.
Gabriel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He was married to Lydia Rosario Camba on April 9, 1970, and she survives.
He is also survived by his father, Gabriel G. Abellada, Sr., Kapolei, Hawaii; sons, Aldwin (Brook) Abellada, Simpsonville, South Carolina, Bernard Abellada, Palm Desert, California; daughter, Geraldine (Bob) Thomas, Indianapolis; brothers, Mario Abellada, Hawaii, Alfredo Abellada, Philippines; sisters, Thelma DelaCruz, Charleston, South Carolina, Estrelita Kintanar, Iowa, Nancy Lontok, Greensburg; and grandchildren, Nathan, Maria, Robby, Ross, and Reece.
He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Efren Abellada.
Family and friends will gather at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 22 at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until 7 p.m. and will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the church. Funeral Mass beings at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
