Gerald L. Dix, 96, Columbus, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Bartholomew County, son of Ruby T. and Lizzie (Crowhorn) Dix.
He was a U. S. Army of WWII, serving with the 94th Signal Battalion.
He married Georgia M. Coffey on Dec. 30, 1943.
Mr. Dix retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1982, after 42 years.
He was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church and was Man-of-the-Year with Housing Partnership Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years; children, Jacqueline L. (Russell) Thackery of Florida, Michael (Sue) Dix of Indianapolis and Patricia D. Wessel of Columbus; grandchildren, Ross (Stephanie Grossman) Thackery, Paul Michael (Kae) Dix, Shalah (Matthew) Noblitt and Sterling Wessel; great-grandchildren, Alex, Anthony and Haruki Dix and Riley and Sierra Thackery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert T. Dix; sister, Dorothy Dix; infant children, Freddie and Glenda Marlene Dix; and son, Billy J. Dix.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until the start of funeral services at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home in Columbus. Rev. Charles Aigner will officiate. Burial at Westport Cemetery with military rites presented by Greensburg American Legion Post #129.
