James Henry Brewer, 82, of Westport, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 at his residence. He was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, the son of Monroe and Lottie Belle (Strong) Brewer.
He graduated in 1954 from Breathitt High School in Jackson, Kentucky.
He had been a resident of Westport since 1957.
He retired in 1997 from Rockwell Automation, after 32 years of service. He was a member of Life Apostolic Church and Westport American Legion Post.
He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army.
He married Emma Haddix Jan. 31, 1958, in Jackson, Kentucky, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Donna (Clinton) Powell; sons, Eddie (Sheri) Brewer, James R. (Madalyn) Brewer, Kevin (Robin) Brewer, all of Westport, David (Nancy) Brewer of Scipio; sister, Fanny Irvin of Newport, Kentucky; brothers, William "Billy" (Wilma) Brewer of Westport; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Virgil, Hubert, Veirdie, Fred, and Linsey Brewer, who died in infancy; sisters, Thelma Cope and Fairleen Arrowood; grandson, Grant Brewer and great-granddaughter, Avery Brewer.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6 at the funeral home with Rev. Aaron Arrowood and Rev. Gerald Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery.
