Mary G. Hampton, 86, of Westport, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at her residence. She was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Westport, the daughter of John C. and Ellen (Small) Cann.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Westport and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1948.
She was a member of the Fredonia Community Church, where she served as the pianist for many years. She was also a member of the Witty Wives Extension Homemakers Club, where she served as secretary and the Antique Car Club.
She enjoyed working with flowers, animals, and feeding and watching birds.
She married Arvis Hampton in Letts on Sept. 25, 1954. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1995.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Carmen Hampton of Westport; son, Richard Hampton of North Vernon; sisters, Lucinda Armand of Atlanta, Georgia and Ruth Clarkson of Westport; brother, George Cann of Westport; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. The family will receive visitors from noon until the start of funeral services at 2 p.m. Rev. Roger Walby will officiate. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery.
