Patricia Sue Wagoner Shirk, 87, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Heritage House in Greensburg, Indiana. Born January 10, 1930 in Waldron, Indiana to parents Floyd Wag Earl Wagoner and Mildred Mitchell Wagoner.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fredrick and Charity Ann (Cuskaden) Mitchell; her parents, Floyd Wag Wagoner and Mildred Mitchell Wagoner; her brothers, Major Karl M. Wagoner and Michael F. Wagoner; first husband Edward Thibo; daughters, Jeannette Jeanne Thibo Karns and Holly J. Esters; and grandson Clayton Karns.
Surviving is her husband of 52 years, Charles Elbert Shirk; daughter, Melissa Shirk-Freeman; sister-in-law, Dori (Karl) Wagoner; nine (9) grandchildren, Grant Freeman, Madison Freeman, Garret Freeman, Brian Karns (Xeng), Kevin Karns, Preston Karns, Allen Karns, Patty George (Ray), Robin Paris; three (3) great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pat attended Waldron High School and graduated in 1948. She attended Franklin College and was in Tri Delta sorority. She worked during World War II in a canning factory. Pat was employed at the First State Bank of Waldron for her father and later became a farmer raising cows and running the family farms. She was a member of St. Vincents Catholic Church for over 60 years, a supporter of her childhood parish, the Methodist Church of Waldron, and a member of Rush County Home-Ec Club, Friends Too.
She was a local philanthropist generous with her time helping with 4-H; volunteering at the Indiana State museum; tutoring students towards their GED; Soil and Water Conservation Board in Shelby County, and a volunteer board member of the Carousel Play and Learn Center in Greensburg. She started the Mildred and Floyd Wagoner scholarship to benefit special education through the Blue River Foundation in honor of her mother who founded the Triangle School in Shelbyville.
In addition to farming, Pat worked at Shirks International as a bookkeeper and was proud to help install one of the first computers when most businesses didnt have them.
She loved her weekly calls with her little brother Karl, spending time with her grandchildren, her animals, nature and conservation by way of forest preservation, historical properties, family legacies, and dinners with all of her family members and friends.

Visitation will be at the Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 6:00 8:00 PM. Funeral Service will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at the St. Vincent Catholic Church with visitation at the Church one hour before the mass. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana.
