Robert Willard "Grumpy" Loyd, 82, of Columbus, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at his residence. He was born Oct. 4, 1934, in
Scipio, Indiana, the son of Willard and Ida Pearl (Boardman) Loyd.
He had been a Decatur County resident since 2001 and had moved to Columbus in May of 2015. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1953 and retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1987 after 31 years of service.
Mr. Loyd was a member of the Hartsville Church of Christ, Moose Lodge # 576 at North Vernon, the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA), the Indiana Blacksmith Association, Rural Smith Association, and the Hog Turd Gentleman's Association.
He camped at Friendship from 1953 until 1980's. He enjoyed playing the guitar, dancing, blacksmithing, muzzle loading, leather working, coppersmithing, silversmithing, hunting, trapping and lamp blacking.
He married Marilyn Anne Marsh in Brown County on June 22, 1985, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Victoria Lynn Cook of Scipio and Mary Suella "Susie" (Danny) Warnell of North Vernon; son, Reginald Bob Loyd of Elizabethtown; stepdaughter, Pamela Sue (Jason) Weisenbach of Greensburg; stepson, Jonathan Willis Repp of Columbus; sister-in-law, Joanne Loyd of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson, Justin Craig (Jennifer) Fox of Columbus; step-grandchildren, Thomas, Carrie, Jenna and Emma Weisenbach, Raelyn, Riley and Alton Repp; great-grandson, Jason Loyd Fox of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leroy "Jack" Loyd.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Dupont Cemetery.
