Ruth Lea Powell, 87, of Greensburg passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was born on June 25, 1930, in Winchester, Kentucky the daughter of Henry Carter, Sr. & Edna (Lee) Dailey.
She had been a resident of Greensburg since 1953. Ruth was a member of Mount Moriah Church in Adams. She enjoyed Nascar racing, Gospel and Country music and spending time with her grandchildren
She married Elmer D. Powell in Lexington, Kentucky on December 6, 1952. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2001.
Survivors include daughters, Mary R. Powell and Nancy L. Daugherty both of Greensburg and Betty L. Glaser of Indianapolis; sons, Carter D. Powell of Tennessee, John R. Powell of Adams, Jay D. Powell of Hicksville, Ohio; sisters, Patsy Rudder, Dorise Sue Hyatt and Frankie Brown; brothers, Bobby Ray Dailey and Henry Carter Dailey; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer D. Powell; sons, Elmer Powell, Jr. and David Allen Powell; sisters, Louise Thomas, Betty Jo Kirby, Ruby Johnson and Margarit Richer; brother, James Dailey, Jr. and grandson, John Wayne Shackelford.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with Berry Glaser officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 9, 2018, from noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
