Steven Charles "Westy" Westhafer, 52, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at home surrounded in love by his family. Steve was born Nov. 14, 1964, the son of Jerry and Eva Westhafer.
He was a lifelong resident of Greensburg, graduating high school in 1983. He went to school at Vincennes University before coming back to Greensburg to work in the family business, Indiana Wire Products, Inc., where he took over as President of the company when his father, Jerry Westhafer, retired.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg and the Greensburg Country Club.
Kind and generous are two words that well describe Steve, who did not just take care of those he loved, but supported those he never knew. He was a tender-hearted soul who loved his friends and family. The light of his life was his grandson, Landon, who he affectionately referred to as his "little buddy." Traveling, or watching or attending a Reds or Cubs game was a favorite pastime, but golfing with his longtime friends was closest to his heart.
Steve fought bravely and courageously through a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve is survived by his son, Phillip (fiancé Paige Moody) Westhafer; grandson, Landon Westhafer; mother, Eva Westhafer; sisters, Carole (Will) Burr and Julie (Mark) Hamner; nephews, Thad Burr, Noah Burr, Kooper Kuehl, and Spencer Kuehl; niece, Jillian Kuehl.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Westhafer and sister, Mary Jean Westhafer.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shannon Burford officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com.
