Virgil M. Haskamp, 85, Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016. He was born July 6, 1931, in Franklin County, son of Edward H. and Louise C. (Meyer) Haskamp.
Virgil graduated in 1949 from Batesville High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. When he returned from the service, he farmed and ran a trucking business for many years.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus in Greensburg, and a former member of the Knights of St. John in Hamburg.
He married Bertha Daeger on Sept. 5, 1964, and she survives.
He is also survived by his sons, Edward (Jan) Haskamp, Greensburg, Doug (Barb) Haskamp, Greensburg; daughters, Theresa (George) Dury, Indianapolis, Karen (Tom) Poplawski, La Porte; ten grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louis Haskamp, Bernard "Benny" Haskamp; and sisters, Ruth Wolter, Luella Nobbe.
Family and friends will play a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, with visitation following until 8 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Enochsburg with Rev. Bill Ehalt officiating. Interment with military graveside rites will follow at St.
Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Hamburg.
