Virgil's Story

Virgil Clinton Reece, 74, a longtime Franklin County area resident, passed away November 4, 2017 in Rush Memorial Hospital. He was born September 22, 1943 in Franklin County to Marshall D. & Casetta (Johnson) Reece. Virgil married Sandra Blaze Meyers on May 13, 1972 and she survives.
Virgil followed his military wife all over the United States & abroad for many years. He was an ASC certified mechanic, diesel mechanic, military post exchange employee in many places and skilled trim carpenter. He lived a life of hard work and earned high praise and accolades everywhere he went. He was quick to help others and was an exceptional man who showed kindness towards everyone. Most importantly, Virgil was a devoted husband of 45 years and a loving father and grandfather.
He was a longtime member of the Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, of Franklin County, he is survived by his sons, Richard David (Michelle) Reece of Fayetteville, NC and Gary Clinton (Melissa) Reece of Greensburg, his daughters, Vickie Sue Gabbard of Brookville and Laquita Dawn Reece Bullock of Ellisville, MS, sisters, Mary Allen of Laurel, Katherine Conley of Buena Vista, Hallie (Harley) Sherwood of Andersonville, Marie Mays of New Salem, Wanda White, Betty (Rick) Thompson and Vicki (Ernie) Smallwood all of Laurel, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a brother, Cornealious, a sister, Dithula Bailey and a grandson, Gary Reece Jr.
Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastor Mike Coyle presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 11 AM until time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Stipps Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Disease Research Foundation.
