Jimmie's Story

Jimmie Collins, 70, of Greensburg, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 12:37 p.m. at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 29, 1947 in Bath, Kentucky the son of John and Rebecca Mae (Bowens) Collins. He was raised in Indiana and had attended Batesville High School. He had worked for Lowes Grain Distribution for 15 years. He was a member of the Greensburg American Legion and the Westport Christian Church. Jimmie enjoyed playing golf and horseback riding. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam Era. He married Shirley Marie Cook on July 27, 1968 in Rochester, New York and she survives. Other survivors include his son, Jimmie Collins, Jr. of Greensburg; a nephew, Scott Cook of New York, whom they raised; his granddaughters, Tristin Collins, Sydney Collins, Kylie Collins and Latisha Meyer; grandson, Steven Taylor; great granddaughter, Mia Grace Collins; great grandsons, Kaiden Meyer, Christopher Meyer and Atsuki Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harrison Collins, Earl Collins, Ernie Collins, Carson Collins and Jerry Collins; sisters, Faye Pence and Janice Morrow. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Military service honors. Pastor Mike Bartlett will officiate. Per Mr. Collins wishes cremation will follow. Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Feed the Children Program.
