Alfred Hargitt (Fred) Obituary

St. Paul, Indiana - Alfred "Fred" Hargitt, 95, of St. Paul, passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 at his home. Born December 2, 1930 in Pontiac, Michigan, he was the son of James Frank Hargitt and Muriel Eileen (Martin) Hargitt. He married Estelle (Cheatham) Hargitt on October 15, 1955 and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter Laura Beth (Hargitt) Cohen of Oxford, Ohio and son, Stuart Clay Hargitt of St. Paul. He is also survived by 4 grandaughters and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and son in law.


Fred had lived in this area throughout his life. He graduated from Purdue University School of Engineering and Technology and was the owner of Hargitt Construction, Inc as a general contractor, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Army, obtaining the rank of Major. Fred enjoyed the art of stained glass and flying as a private pilot.


Funeral services will be held at the St. Paul Methodist Church, 208 E. Franklin Street, St. Paul, Indiana on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mark Dodd officiating. Friends may call from noon that day until the time of the service at the church.
