Charles Edward Sanders
Charles Edward Sanders, 90, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully at 9:15 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019. He was born on July 12, 1929 in Decatur County the son of Noble and Dorothy (Knight) Sanders. He was born and raised in Jackson Township and graduated from Jackson High School in 1948 and he attended Purdue University. He retired from MLKS Bearings after 37 years of service. Charlie was past president of the Westport Kiwanis Club, past Lt. Governor of the Indiana District Kiwanis and was outstanding Lt. Governor in 1980. He was a member of the John Purdue Club, Rural Couples Club, Decatur County Cattleman's Association, Union Cemetery Board, Greensburg Power of the Past, the former Letts United Methodist Church and the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #36. He served as 4-H Leader and was on 4-H Council. In 2016, he was the Certificate of Distinction recipient at the annual Decatur County Purdue Extension meeting. He enjoyed fishing, art and photography, gardening, he was the emcee for the 4-H Beef shows and helped with 4-H model projects, he coached youth football & baseball. In his personal life his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Judith Myers on July 1, 1956 at the Letts Methodist Church and she preceded him in death August 16, 2015. Survivors include his son, Scott Sanders of Greensburg; his brother, Emmons "Rabbit" Sanders of Columbus; his grandchildren, Cody Sanders and Layne Sanders both of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter-in-law Beth Sanders. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastors Bill & Tammy Leak officiating. Burial will be at the Westport Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
