Charles M. Tichenor
Charles M. Tichenor, 81, of Westport, passed away at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born August 1, 1937 in Greensburg, the son of Willard C. and Gladys Marie (Grimes) Tichenor. He was lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated from the Sandcreek High School in 1955. He had an upholstery shop and did upholstery work for 50 years. He also pastored several churches, the Friendship Rodney Separate Baptist Church for 29 years, the Salem Separate Baptist Church for 2 years and the Midway Separate Baptist Church for 20 years. He also had a dedicated ministry to many local nursing homes and the heart of his ministry was missions. His hobbies included gardening, flowers and small animals. He married Lois Jean Atchley on March 4, 1956 at the Friendship Rodney Separate Baptist Church. She survives, along with his children, Beverly (Tim) Blount of Gulliver, Michigan, Cheryl (Randy) Yeager of North Vernon, Marcella Tichenor of Safford, Arizona, Karin Tichenor of Westport, Terry (Vicki) Tichenor of Shoals, and Burl (Beth) Tichenor of Martinsville; his siblings, Connie Atchley and Barbara (Kentlin) Floyd both of Westport, Max (Barb) Tichenor of Greensburg, Marshall Lee Tichenor and Milo (Lisa) Tichenor both of Westport, and Miriam (Bradley) SurVance of Shoals; his 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Thorpe and Pastor Jerry Ridge. Burial will be at the Rodney Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
