Evelyn Flora Richards, 86, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Heritage House of Greensburg. Born July 14, 1930, in Ripley County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Delia (Meyer) Narwold.
Evelyn graduated from Napoleon High School and then went on to Purdue University for her Associates degree, where she also met Paul Richards.
On Feb. 4, 1950, she married Paul Richards at St. John Huntersville Church in Batesville. She had been a dedicated member, giving a lot of time along with many gifts to the church, such as all the Bibles in the pews and the furniture in the office.
Evelyn retired from Cummins Engine in Columbus as a legal secretary. She was a member of OES 348 Batesville, the Tree City Squares, and the Brunch Bunch in Indianapolis.
Evelyn and her husband loved to travel around in their Winnebago going camping and dancing, square dancing mostly. They did almost everything together, from shopping to church, but dancing was what they loved most. They danced in all but two states showing off their dancing skills, along with Russia and Poland during a time when it was not easy to travel to those countries.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Jerel (Denise) Richards; grandchildren, Tonia Richards, Tawana Brewer, Scott Richards, Jerel Jr. Richards, Preston Richards, and Tiffany Richards; along with 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Troy Richards and sister, Ethel Thielbar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, with OES services at 7 p.m. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at St. John United Church of Christ, Huntersville, with Pastor Dennis Frische-Mouri and Pastor Linda Frische-Mouri officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
