Gerald Eugene Swisher ("Jerry") Obituary

Arlington, Indiana - 89, of Arlington, Indiana, passed away December 6, 2025. He was born May 20, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa, to the late Walter Swisher and Irene (McCarthy) Swisher. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne unit, followed by achieving a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a master's degree in business from Butler University. He was a teacher and principal for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1996 from Warren Township School System. Jerry's leadership served students at Brookview Elementary, Lakeside Elementary and Grassy Creek Elementary where he was honored as Teacher of the Year for the school's 5th Grade class. Along with being an award-winning educator, Jerry filled his time as an antique dealer and managed a horse farm.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 East Washington Street with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Jerry is survived by his daughters, Valerie Biddle (Randy), and Julie Wendt (David); sons, Russell Swisher (Juli) and Benjamin Swisher (Krista); brother Tom Swisher (Erma); sisters, Barbara Kasperzak (Bud) and Diane Swisher; grandchildren, Anna (Jacob), Rachel, Kate (Sam), Isaac, Riley and Andy; nephew, Barry Swisher; close friend, Jim Craw; and three great-grandchildren. Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Gayle (Kretsch) Swisher; and brother, Don Swisher.
