Rushville, Indiana - James L. Smith, 86, of Rush County passed away November 2, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 6, 1939 in Bargersville, IN to the late Leonard and Frances (Kegley) Smith. James married Deloris J. (Hacker) Smith on June 16, 1957 and she survives.
He was a truck driver and farmer all his life; 30 years was over the road trucking with his wife, Deloris. James was a member of Providence Christian Church and Masonic Union Village Lodge No. 545 in Bargersville. He enjoyed going to farm and livestock sales and watching the stock market. James loved to visit with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Deloris, he is survived by his son, Jimmy Smith of Rushville and Valerie (Carl "Cork") Wooldridge of Knightstown. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Roger) Guinn, Melanie (Brian) Scott, Amber (Clint) Butcher and J.R. Smith; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
James was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lewis Smith.
Services will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 at 12 PM in Moster Mortuary with Pastor Brian Farnsley presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will be held at Center Cemetery.
