Joseph D. Taylor, 73, of Greensburg, passed away unexpectedly at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 30, 1944 at New Castle, Indiana, the son of Mark C. & Ruth (McVey) Taylor. He lived the majority of his life in Decatur County. He graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1962. Worked for the City of Greensburg at the wastewater plant since 1988. Was a member of the Union Baptist Church, Greensburg American Legion Post, Eagles Lodge at Greensburg and the Southern Indiana Operators Association. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and NASCAR racing. Joe coached in the youth baseball and football leagues and had many winning teams. He married Teresa "Kathy" Gommel Taylor at Greensburg Christian Church on April 25, 1969. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2014. He is survived by his sons; Joseph D. Taylor, II of Greensburg, Eric J. Taylor of Orlando, Florida, Joshua M. Taylor of Greensburg and Jeremy Wade (Brandy) Taylor of Milroy; his brother, Barney Taylor of Columbus; his sister, Sara Biedess of Fort Wayne; his nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anne Taylor; brothers, Mark and John Taylor; sister-in-law, Carol Gommel and granddaughter, Jerica Linville. The funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Robb Barlow officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018. Burial will be at the Union Baptist Cemetery with military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.bassgasper.com
