Kim Hayden
January 4, 1949 - April 14, 2025
Kim Hayden, 76, of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on April 14, 2025. He was born on January 4, 1949, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Cecil and Margaret Hayden. Kim married the love of his life, Connie Placke, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. The couple dedicated their careers to education in Greensburg, where they raised their two sons, Patrick and Brandon.
Throughout his teaching career, Kim made a lasting impact not only in the classroom but also on the field. He coached Track and Field and Football, where his sharp wit and motivating presence left an impression on countless student athletes. Whether you knew him as a teacher, coach, or mentor, Kim had a unique way of making people feel seen, encouraged, and capable of more than they believed possible.
Kim was deeply invested in the lives of his family, students, colleagues, and community. He had a remarkable ability to lead with humility and humor, and his influence extended far beyond the school. He took immense joy in watching his sons play sports and was never prouder than when cheering on his grandchildren in their own athletic pursuits.
A man of deep faith, Kim was instrumental in launching the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at Greensburg High School and was a member of the First Christian Church. His legacy of mentorship, compassion, and encouragement lives on in the many lives he touched.
Kim is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Hayden; sons, Patrick Hayden (Renate Klbecka) and Brandon (Jill) Hayden; grandchildren, Austin (Emma Sanders) Hayden, Alex Hayden, Arison Hayden, Andon Hayden, and Olivia Hayden; and brothers, Mike Hayden and Marc (Diane) Hayden.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Jon Porter. The service will also be broadcast live on the Gilliland-Howe Facebook Page for those unable to attend in person. Memorial contributions may be made in Kim's honor to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes or Celebrate Recovery.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
Tree Planting Timeline
