Leslie Ray "Bud" Holzhausen, 88, of St. Paul, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Heritage House in Greensburg. He was born May 19, 1949, in Ripley County, the son of Fred and Lena (Kruse) Holzhausen.
Bud lived in the area his entire life. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1946.
He married Marjorie D. Andrews on Nov. 26, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1988.
Bud was a veteran, having served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, and attaining the rank of Corporal. Most of his service was in Germany. Bud was very proud of the time he spent serving his country in the military.
He married Sandra Davis on Aug. 4, 1992 and she survives. Bud worked at the owner and operator of St. Paul Door & Hardware for several years, retiring in 2011. He previously worked at a manager at J.O. Parrish Lumber Co. for 20 years and in sales at Shelby Dealers/Lumbermans for 22 years.
Bud was a member of the Apostolic Truth Tabernacle of Greensburg.
Bud was known by all for his gentle, kind ways and big heart, always finding the good in everyone. He loved traveling, gardening, his family and grandchildren, and was a connoisseur of good food, especially desserts.
He was passionate about the youth, teaching young people's class for 42 years at his church and hosted many youth gatherings at his home. Many wonderful memories were made at these gatherings throughout the years.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, he is survived by his son, Timothy Holzhausen of St. Paul; daughters, Jane Ann Wampler of Shelbyville and Julie (Jeff) Sangl of St. Paul; brother, Dale (Ruby) Holzhausen of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Justin Wampler, Jama Haas, Stefanie Adkins, Jason Sangl ,Joshua Sangl; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marjorie; and sister, Mae Williamson.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle, 1114 W. Westridge Parkway, in Greensburg. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m., Pastor Jeff Sangl and Pastor Garry Streeval officiating. A graveside military service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville by a local veteran's organization.
Memorials may be made to the Sunday School Bus Ministry at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in care of the Funeral Home.
