Rushville, IN. - Mary Lou Veatch, 94, a lifelong Rush County resident, passed away April 25, 2025 in Indianapolis. She was born June 15, 1930 in Rush County to Dayton & Goldie (Dalrymple) Stewart. Mary Lou was a 1948 graduate of Mays High School. She married Robert "Bob" Veatch on October 1, 1950 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2021.
Mary Lou worked as a homemaker and spent 27 years as an instructor in the Title 1 reading program at Rushville, Arlington, Manilla and St. Mary's Elementary Schools.
She was a 50+ year member of the Arlington Christian Church where she was organist, pianist and taught Sunday school. Mary Lou was very active in her Rush County community serving many capacities with numerous organizations. Those organizations include the Home Helpers Homemakers, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Crimson Queen Red Hat Society, Amicitia Club, the Margaret Hill McCarter Literary Club, and Rush County Farm Bureau where she served as board member, Women's leader for Posey Township and served on the scholarship committee and the annual meeting committee.
Mary Lou loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She and Bob took great pride in their Rush County farm that has been in the Veatch family since 1875. She loved her church and her Posey Township community. Music was a very important part of life for the Veatch family. She and Bob established the Robert and Mary Lou Veatch and Family Fund through the Rush County Community Foundation to foster developing musicians and athletes at Arlington Elementary School.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Marcus (Cynthia) Veatch of Indianapolis, Marla Jane (Mick) Davis of York, PA and Marvin (Beth) Veatch of Seymour, her grandchildren, Meredith (Travis) Behler of York, PA, Michael Davis of Hilton Head, SC, Matthew Davis of Philadelphia, PA and Katherine Veatch of Seymour, her great grandson, Grayson Behler of York, PA and nephew, Stephen Knoy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother; Harold Stewart, sister; Phyllis Knoy, niece; Dana Conde and nephew; James Stewart.
Services for Mary Lou will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in the Arlington Christian Church with Pastor's Gordon Mahaffey & Gary Holt presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 4-8 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Burial will be held in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arlington Christian Church or to the Robert & Mary Lou Veatch Family Fund both through the Rush County Community Foundation.
