Rushville, Indiana - Mona Lea Cole passed away to her eternal home with Jesus on June 3rd, 2026 at the age of 91. Born in rural Rush County, IN on December 6, 1934, she was the daughter of George & Fannie (Nigh) Robbins. Mona grew up in a family of faith and love as a foundation and carried that on throughout her life.

She graduated from Arlington High School in 1952 and in 1955 married Walter McMichael and had three daughters together, Rita, Rhonda, & Ramona. They enjoyed their time together serving in the army in Fort Meade, Maryland, vacationing to visit family out of state, & building their home life in Shirley, IN while together.

In 1979 Mona married Don Cole, a Hancock County farmer and enjoyed farm life, working the ground, taking meals to the field, gardening, canning, & planting flowers. In this union she gained a daughter, Susan.

Many did not know she was a beautiful pianist performing in several competitions, receiving awards and medals while a young adult, turning the heads of many. Her girls remember her getting the attention of neighbors on their street growing up while they listened through the screen door. We can truly see her playing praises and worshipping her savior now in the presence of Jesus.

Mona had a love for writing and keeping journals. In her younger years she wrote plays, short stories, took classes for writing, and later in life wrote for the Farm Week. We wonder now if she is a scribe in heaven writing her new chapter in life!

She worked at Hanock County Hospital in the 1970's-early 80's as a medical transcriptionist and later for a private company. Later in the 1990's for several years she worked for Greenfield Learning Center with co-workers who became good friends.

She was known for her kindness, empathetic heart, and a good listener. And to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, "the grandma who loved to send cards." Her daughters remember how she made the holidays and birthdays special in many ways. She hardly ever missed an event they were in and divided her time to be at as many of her grandchildren's events as possible.

She had several health issues later in life but faced them all with support from family and trust in the grace and help of God. She truly fought a good fight. Because of what she had gone through she had a great heart of compassion for others who were suffering.

She had been a member of Brown's Chapel and River of Life Church in the Greenfield area. She faithfully prayed for her family and loved them all dearly.

She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Rita Kay (Steve) Froman, Rhonda Lea (Doug), Hardy, & Ramona Fay Adams. 1 stepdaughter, Susan (Martin) Ubelhor, 13 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, & 2 great great grandchildren on the way, several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much and tried to keep in touch with.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Cole, parents, George & Fannie Robbins, 2 brothers, Earl & Jack, & sister, Leota Stevens

Services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 1 pm at Moster Mortuary, with Doug Hardy presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 11 AM until the time of service in the mortuary.
