Norman Wayne Ryle
Norman Wayne Ryle, age 80, died January 10, 2020 at Columbus Regional Health.

Norman was born November 23, 1939 in Greensburg, Indiana at the home of his paternal grandparents, Lucian and Effie Ryle. Norman was the son of Loren Forest and Juanita Louise Schroeder Ryle. He arrived unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day in 1939 while the family celebrated Thanksgiving. His grandmother and a cousin, who was a nursing student at the time, assisted with his birth.

He married Betty Ann Behrman on April 15, 1961 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus.

He was a member of the 1957 graduating class of Columbus High School and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Norman began working at Cosco (Dorel Juvenile Group) in 1957 and retired in 2002 with 46 years of service where he worked in the Research and Development Department.

He bowled in the Monday Night Church League and the Thursday afternoon Senior Bowling League for many years. He was a member of Mill Race Center.

Norman was interested in Columbus history. He enjoyed attending local auctions and collecting antiques. He enjoyed exhibiting antique items at the 4-H fair and the Indiana State Fair. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. He also enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of furniture and home accessories for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed doing Crossword and Sudoku puzzles. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their many activities as they grew up.

He is surivied by his wife of 58 years; a son, Jeffrey Wayne (Debra) Ryle of Macomb, Michigan; a daughter, Julie Anne (Rob) Simpson of Columbus; several grandchildren, among them are Jordan (Nicole) Simpson of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jessica (Conner) Yentz of Columbus, Ellie Simpson of Columbus, Elijah Simpson of Charleston, South Carolina, Anthony (Lindsey) Osborne of Southport, Heather (Mario) Gomez of Macomb, Michigan, and Jennifer (Rob) Karaffa of Macomb, Michigan; several great-grandchildren, among them are Charles, Kayden and Reese Simpson of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Thea Yentz of Columbus, Dezi, Archie and Josie-Rose Karaffa of Macomb, Michigan, Ethan Gomez of Macomb, Michigan, Adrienne (Qeon) Gray of Yorktown, Virginia and Olivia and Emery Osborne of Southport; great-great grandchildren, Mya and Sidney Gray of Yorktown, Virginia; and a sister, Arlene (Kent) Crawford of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loren Forest Ryle in 1957; his mother, Juanita Louise Ryle in 2011; and a brother, Steven Loren Ryle in 1979.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 12 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
