Roderick Larry Bailey, 88
Roderick Larry Bailey, 88, born July 17, 1928, with God's grace exchanged his earthly life for one of immortality on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016. Roderick was the last surviving of six children born to Lloyd David and Frances Varble (Reed) Bailey.
A 1946 graduate of St. Paul High School, Rod was a devout Christian, farmer, rural mail carrier, historian, humorist, Mason, and lifelong resident of Decatur County.
Rod married his sweetheart, Mary Louise Lee on May 11, 1947; theirs was a love proven to have lasted a lifetime. Together, they successfully raised four grateful children on the Tlinkatonka homestead.
Rod is survived by his wife and children, Sandra (Greg) Silver, Larry (Charlotte) Bailey, Nancy (Tom) Nolan, and Lloyd Mark (Judith) Bailey; ten loving grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dr. Lyle Bailey, Pauline Steen, Mary Ellen Bailey (infant), Ivan Bailey, and Donald Bailey; and infant granddaughter, Sarah Silver.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, at Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul. Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26 at the funeral home followed by burial in Van Pelt Cemetery in Waldron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice in care of the funeral home.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Major Hospital and Ashford Place in Shelbyville for the care and respect they extended to Roderick and his family.
