Milroy, IN - Wilson Dale Brooks, 94 born August 30th, 1930, of Milroy, went to be with his Heavenly father on December 9, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Harcourt Brooks, along with his sister Marion Esther Day.

Wilson is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Martha Hungerford; his children Stephen (Mary) of Columbus; Joe (Gretchen) of Fishers and Susan Layton (Greg Roland) of Greenfield. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Meg, Corbin, Ty, and Jaclyn, along with great granddaughter, Ripley. He is also survived by his nephew, Bob (Judy) Howe of North Vernon.

Wilson graduated from Milroy High School in 1948, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and attended and played basketball at Hanover College. He took over the family farm in which he raised livestock and farmed many acres in Rush County until his retirement at 65.

He enjoyed traveling with Marty and his family, watching the Reds, Pacers, Fever as well as any college basketball team from Indiana; especially Butler, Purdue and IU.

Wilson played basketball in high school and made the elite navy team that went on to win several tournaments. He even played against the Harlem Globetrotters. He also officiated local basketball games for many years.

He was an active member of the Milroy United Methodist Church and served as trustee. He also served on the REMC board and the 4H council.

He loved his westerns, daily visits with neighbors, and never turned down a game of cards.

Wilson was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor. He will be greatly missed by all.

Services for Wilson will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 1 PM in Milroy United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Schneider presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 11 AM until time of service in the church on Friday. Burial will be in the Moscow Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Milroy United Methodist Church. Moster Mortuary is entrusted to the arrangements.
